A Simple Small Business Marketing Strategy To Get More Visibility

 

About once a month, members of Babe Crafted will get together (either in the FaceBook Group or the monthly in-person workshop) and talk about their small business marketing strategy. 

We go over this topic a lot because

  1. There’s a lot to talk about

  2. It changes all the time

Between TikTok trends and the never-ending Instagram changes, it’s difficult for small business owners to keep up with it all. Especially when you have a business to run.

But here’s the thing: marketing strategies are more than just keeping up with social media. In fact, I would argue that there’s one thing in your marketing strategy that almost always stays the same:

Your audience.

What is Business Marketing? 

Anyone who owns a business needs to utilize business marketing. Some forms of marketing are:

  • Guerilla marketing

  • Word-of-mouth referrals

  • SEO, and

  • Social media marketing

According to the American Marketing Association, your marketing efforts are the driving force for generating and maintaining customer relationships.

Basically, they’re saying that the entire point of marketing is to bring benefits to other people. This means that your audience should be the focus behind your marketing efforts— not just your own personal goals. 

A Simple Small Business Marketing Strategy To Get More Visibility 

Listen, I know that ideas for small business marketing are a dime a dozen.

There’s that one girl on TikTok who tells you to just use trending sounds to go viral.

Then you have the Instagram guru who says to follow and DM as many people as possible.  

I don’t know about you, but these ideas seem to lack something. I’m also not the type of gal to be pushy, and I honestly don’t have time to stay on top of trends.  

So here’s a small business marketing strategy that takes the pressure off of keeping up with social media trends and focuses more on your community:

Step 1: Know What You’re Selling

You won’t feel like marketing yourself if you can’t decide why you’re posting content in the first place. 

And, if you’re being honest with yourself, isn’t the reason you’re marketing anything to make money?

The key to making money for your small business is to first listen to what your audience actually wants. Then you can offer the solution (free or paid).

You can start by posting about what you do that can help your audience.

It can be something like our Babe Crafted member Viki Glaze’s relatable behind-the-scenes video.

Or it might look like a helpful carousel post about how to “Get Camera Ready Like a Boss” like this one that Babe Crater, Sophia Rodriguez, put together for her community. 

Step 2: Pick and Repurpose

It’s natural to want to be on every social media platform for your small business marketing strategy. Especially when you see success stories from like-minded entrepreneurs on TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, and even Facebook.

But, girl, you’re spreading yourself too thin. Let’s take a minute to focus. 

Think about which social media platform brings you the most joy. Because you’ll be spending a lot of time on there. Pick one social media platform to create your content on. This is the platform where you’ll pay attention to the trends and engage with your audience. 

Repurpose the rest.

Step 3: Engage

I recently read an article that said you need to be posting multiple times a day to engage with your audience.

That’s not what engagement should be.

Engagement means taking time out of your day to go after the audience you’re trying to connect with and sell to. Think of it as your daily customer service for your business. 

And today’s idea of customer service means spending 30 minutes a day engaging with your audience.
