Hey, hey! Fill up that mug and snag a comfy chair. Let’s talk about mental health. May has been recognized as Mental Health Awareness Month by Mental Health America since 1949. Perception and understanding of mental health has come a long way since then, but we still have more to go. Everyone deserves the tools and space to take care of their mental health and it looks different for everyone.

Today we have 7 amazing entrepreneurs sharing specific strategies they use to take care of themselves. I’m also including some ideas and resources from Mental Health America below for you in case you’re looking for more real examples on how to take good care of your beautiful self.

One thing to remember is that you gotta do what feels right to you, whether that’s setting boundaries, seeing a therapist, taking long baths, having a weekly call or meet up with a group of friends, or something else. Or all of the above! This is your life, girl. And you deserve to enjoy it and feel GOOD. Like, really good. So take a peek at the quotes from biz owners I know you’ll love and check out the resources at the end of this blog. Sending hugs your way. xo -Gina

“We spend the majority of our time on social media, whether that is for clients, research, or keeping up with the latest trends. I actually offer my team set hours each week, that are paid, for them to get away from their screens. They can spend this time doing whatever they like - some spend it reading, others go to museums, some spend it outside in nature. It's something that not only encourages us to protect and prioritize our mental health, but it also allows us to be inspired and find new creativity.”

“Mental health is extremely important to me. I used to suffer with severe anxiety attacks and had to take medication for it. Not wanting to be on medication anymore. I learned breathing techniques, affirmations, and surrounding myself with positivity.

I have my affirmations scheduled on my calendar, so I make sure I say them everyday. I do something outside everyday, ride my bike, walk, etc. Last but not least, I have to have some quiet time to myself.”

“I've struggled with anxiety for most of my adult life. I'm a firm believer in therapy and coaching and I've been in both in different seasons of my life. Currently with my business coach, I work on being aware of any negative thoughts and turning them into a positive instead. I use daily affirmations to help reprogram my brain to stay in a positive and growth mindset. This helps me stay off the roller coaster ride of emotions that an "anxiety brain" can bring, and in turn, feel more in control!”

“Wearing so many hats can be tiring. I've been trying my best to include one walk around the neighborhood with my troublemaker corgi, Parker. This allows me to get away from my computer, let the sun welcome me back to the world, and get some movement. This brings my peace!”

“Schedule in my week time to do pleasurable activities, surround myself with other women entrepreneurs to chat about things that come up and remind myself that most of the deadlines I have are self-imposed so it's OKAY to move them around.”

“If I am feeling drained or uninspired, I will take a break to clear my mind and go outside. Take a walk through my garden and spend time noticing new growth or different insects on the plants, touch the herbs and use them as aromatherapy.”

“A few things I've found really help my mental health:

1. Weekly phone chats with a friend who's willing to talk ALL things life & business

2. Answering honestly when someone asks how I am (if I know them & feel like sharing!). This one can feel awkward when we're so used to "I'm good!" but actually saying how you are when you know they truly care creates a deeper connection, releases tension from holding up an emotional facade and gives someone else the chance to be authentic.

3. Lots of stand up comedy on YouTube! 😄”
