4 Steps Towards Mastering Video for your Brand

Video, video, get down! It’s just you and meeee. That’s how that 90’s pop song goes, right? I’m here to tell you that creating video content for your brand & to tell your story is not only possible, but much easier than you think. It’s not magic— it’s just a few pieces of video equipment & commitment from you, girl.

SO! Let’s dive in.

I have 4 challenges for you. It’s 1 challenge per week for the whole month of August. You can shoot all of them on your phone (say whaaaat!) and you can also spread them out further if you need to, no pressure, babe! But the goal is to go from basic to badass using 4 videos over a short amount of time. If you follow these steps, not only will you have 4 pieces of content you can continue to use in the future, but you’ll also have the confidence & experience you’ll need to create more videos. Videos get grow revenue 49% faster than non-video users AND they boast a higher conversion rate of 80%. If that’s not enough to convince you to give this a go, then perhaps this will:

People want to do business with people they “know, like, & trust.” You will become known & trust-worthy to your potential client if she can get to know you before she decides whether or not she’s going to buy from you.

Video is the way, babe! Let me take you there! Remember this: if you want to get better, you have to get started. Choose today.

Week 1 // Introduce yourself with a Boomerang

You can do a Boomerang selfie or get a business bestie to help you out. Boomerangs are a quick & easy way to add some movement to your Instagram feed.

Week 2 // Share a peek BTS with a Time-lapse

Choose to capture yourself doing something fun that’ll give your audience a peek into your day/life as a business owner. Be resourceful- ask yourself what you have at your fingertips.

Some ideas: packing up for an event, putting together a batch of client welcome packets, handlettering a sign, etc.

Record for several minutes. If you record for less than that, there won’t be enough content and the time-lapse video will be too fast.

It’s also best if the camera is steady & stationery (use a tripod & a rig to hold your phone in place. My equipment recs are linked here and cost less than $50).

Week 3 // Share expertise & answer questions with a Facebook or IG Live

Here’s where it starts to get scary, right? It’s totally okay! Choose a topic you feel comfortable talking about and that will resonate with your audience. Whether you have 1 person watching or 10 people watching, give it your best shot.

It’s also totally fine to have some bullet points mapped out on a notebook or your computer nearby.

Give you audience a heads up a few days before and 30 minutes before that you’ll be going live so it A) gives them a chance to tune in live and B) you’re top of mind. Also, pro tip: share the video in the future to your personal page and from your business page again in the future (FB). If you went live on IG, add it to your IGTV channel.

You gotta maximize that time & effort, babe.

Week 4 // Tell your story with an About Video

Woah! This is getting pretty serious, huh? ;) You’ve got this. First you’re going to script out (can be bullet points) your video. It’s important to share who you are, why you got started, and what your business is. You can also add a cal to action at the end, inviting potential clients to book a call or some other form of action.

Next you’ll want to choose a quiet, bright place to shoot in. You can leave your phone rolling and I recommend getting 2 to 3 takes. Gather high res photos and/or other video clips to layer into the video. Edit in iMovie. If you get stumped, find a YouTube tutorial and keep pressing forward. You will learn slow, then really fast.

The About Video will take you a lot longer than the other 3, but that’s why we saved it for last. Get the feedback of a few business bestie you trust before you upload the final draft to social media and to YouTube so you can embed it on your website.
