Get Healthier in 3 Easy Steps

THERE CAN NEVER BE ENOUGH CHIC, PINK WALLS IN THE WORLD.

Hello, babes! My name is Sarah Maingot, I'm originally from Trinidad and Tobago. I'm so excited to be writing my first official post for you! I'm a huge believer that everything in life happens for a reason and somehow the universe has led me here. I could not be more thrilled to embark on this journey of pursuing a fulfilled, creative life along with you. You can expect some diverse content from me: style, health & wellness, small business tips, & more. I’m a 25-year-old, fashion-obsessed creative. I got into content creation a couple years ago for my personal style blog, but I’ve always been passionate about creating work that inspires. My blog is all about sharing my personal take on fashion & style through a realistic, minimalistic approach - something I also try to practice in my everyday life.

So! It’s Mugs Monday, and we're continuing the conversation about self care, so let's dive right in. I'm here to share my personal health story so you can get a sense of who I am and the journey I’m on in this crazy thing we call life. It’s taken me awhile to find my passion and I’m still not 100% on track, but in the last couple years I’ve made some great steps forward on this journey to finding my purpose. Something that has truly helped me in getting where I am today & feeling motivated and somewhat comfortable with myself is focusing on my health & wellness.

We are told over and over again, good health is essential to quality of life both physically and mentally. I have struggled with external & internal health issues. Like many women, l have waged wars working towards a positive body image. I also have a type of IBS, which is something I have to navigate around every day as I continue to learn about how to live with this issue. I can definitely say I’m on board with the "easier said than done" train when it comes to finding a healthy routine. I’ve always been a healthy eater & being active is something that I’ve always consistently incorporated into my everyday routine, but staying healthy on the regular is difficult, especially when like me, someone who is active and eats healthy for the most part doesn’t always see the results I want to. I mean let’s face it, life happens. A friend's birthday, a glass of wine, a chocolate craving... the distractions never end. But, what I’ve learned about all of these disturbances to my lifestyle is that finding balance is key. Once I stopping making myself feel guilty for not having a perfectly healthy day, the changes started happening & the internal progress for me was way more beneficial.

This is me hangin' on Davis Island after a Circuit class at Camp. Find a workout that makes you feel this extra.

I can attest to the fact that once you start embarking on your health journey your approach to life changes entirely - and guess what? The feeling is AMAZING. Here are three pieces of advice that I've found to be the most useful along my journey.

Figure Out What Works For You - Growing up, especially in my mid to late teens, I struggled a lot with comparing myself to my friends & others around me. As a more shy & reserved person, it was always in my nature to take a step back and just kind of follow the crowd. It took me a while to find myself & really invest in a workout and eating routine that made me feel good. I’ve learned that just because one of my friends loves running & sees results doesn’t mean that it will work for me. Go out there & find something that works for you. Try every single workout class that you are able to & stick with the one that makes you feel the best.

Consistency - In life, nothing worth investing in happens with the tap of a finger. After you find something that really makes you feel motivated, stick with it! The first two weeks are always the hardest, but once you get past those two weeks it starts becoming a part of your daily routine. Eventually, it turns into a way of life. Don’t give up, as hard as it is to do, I promise it’s worth it. Pro tip: schedule your workouts in advance on your calendar! I’ve found that every single time I do this, I always follow through.

Be Mindful & Listen to Your Body - From the moment I started paying attention to the way my body was feeling, my health improved. Whether it's keeping track of the food I eat and how it makes me feel, to the way my body feels during a certain workout class. Make a note and keep track of the way your body is feeling in that moment. You can use those notes to know exactly the reason for feeling a certain way.

I hope you find some of my advice useful! I’m looking forward to sharing more about health & wellness tips in the future. Our lives are always evolving & I love figuring out simple and achievable steps to being happy and well. Feel free to say "Hi" and introduce yourselves to me in the comments below! I’d love to meet each & every one of you. Thanks for reading my very first post babes. I'll chat with ya again soon! Have a great week & stay boss.

-Sarah
